Insidious

A 5e Adventure for 5-7 Characters Level 3-4

Ville de Marais had always been a quiet enclave of safety and fellowship. It was a bastion of collaboration with the entire community dedicated to one effort: the production of salt. Situated on the edge of a vast expanse of wetlands known as the salt marshes, the people of Ville de Marais and other nearby villages owed their success and comfort to one Lord Hapstein, Earl of the Salt Lands, Principal Agent presiding over the Salt Merchants Guild, and friend of the people. All was well in the land and the citizenry rejoiced in their shared prosperity!

Yet lately, the weather has changed. Warm sunny days have turned to cold rain, overcast skies, and muddy streets. Lord Hapstein, his daughter, and their household staff have not been seen for many days. Rumors abound that sickness plagues Hapstein Manor. Some believe the gods are punishing their greed for profit, others blame the peculiarities of the Muckers who dredge the salty muck from the marsh for the mills, and fewer still who feel the chill stirring as more than just the wind. They quietly fear that what gathers is darker, more frightful, greater than a malady of night terrors. No, something wicked and cruel draws hither, they say. Hungry, vile, infectious . . . insidious.
